Description
The Reader may be in possession of a unique book: a volume, one of the most important military operations of World War II, from 1944 to 1945. discusses the antecedents and course of the siege of Budapest in the light of armored warfare. In the autumn of 1944, history arrived in Budapest - as usual with a cannonball and this time on a caterpillar. By the end of October, not only had the Hungarian attempt to break out failed, it had become clear that Hungary would fight and suffer the war throughout, and it was even certain that the struggle in Europe would last well into the year 1945. In the West, Operation Market Market, a bold attempt to airborne to end the war quickly, failed in late September, forcing the Allies into a long struggle on the border of the Third Reich. In the east, the Soviet army was stuck in the strategic direction of the battlefield in the Germanic-Polish Plain in the middle of Poland. In the meantime, he made his way to the Hungarian Great Plain in August, and although he suffered a minor defeat in the Debrecen area, Stalin still hoped to occupy Budapest quickly and get to the forefront of Vienna in 1944. This was not the case, in which the fighting for Budapest played a major role. The present volume is the second, significantly expanded edition of the book, the publication of which was necessitated primarily by the fact that numerous primary sources have become searchable in recent years. Not only the hitherto unknown documents of Soviet troops and headquarters contain much new data, but also the looted German records. By processing them, we can get a more detailed picture of the armored clashes that took place around the Hungarian capital and in its territory between the end of October 1944 and the middle of February 1945. The many details paint the whole picture: many of the essential connections between the warfare of the last year of war become clear from this special book.
